Greetings, my dear Purrfumery friends!

I love this time of year. The roses are all in bloom, and there are tons of butterflies flocking to the Milkweed sprinkled throughout the Purrfumery garden. It’s truly splendor all around! I am spending much time in the garden, taking in the sights & smells, and reflecting on my life. I turn 70 in August - a Leo of course- and I am feeling a shift with the seasons.

A New Decade

I love the work I do - immersing myself in the sumptuous realm of flowers & carefully balancing them to create perfumes to share with you all. I find such meaning in getting to unite my love of flowers with my love of animals, creating pathways for my perfumes to support the groups hard at work protecting endangered animals around the world. I’m so grateful to have found this path, and to have had the support of so many of you for so many years!

I still have many exquisite treasures to share - including 25 year old aged Tamil Nadu sandalwood & a myriad of Rose distillations - Roses from Bulgaria, India, Turkey, and South Africa, and many more heavenly scents. While I am truly excited to continue blending & mixing until the next perfume reveals itself to me, I’m less inclined to put my energy towards Purrfumery social media right now. I’m sorry I don’t post as much as I used to! I still want to remain connected with my beloved Purrfumery community - you - and I encourage you to reach out to schedule a Purrfumery visit. 

As I enter this new decade of life I’m feeling more inward, and putting my energy toward other things that are also meaningful to me. One of those things is the bevvy of rescue kittens I have taken in - all tangled up in my antique laces, ribbons, and bows at this very moment! If you or anyone you know in the Bay Area is open to welcoming a new furry companion or two into your life, I have been co-fostering 4 heart-meltingly adorable kittens who are looking for a loving home. The Story Behind Luminous Lemurs - A Perfume with Purpose

In the early days of Covid I felt like I had all the time in the world to retreat into the Purrfumery without distraction. I spent a lot of time mixing and dreaming, finding my way through the delightful sensory realm. A dear friend of mine who supports Lemur conservation in Madagascar brought some beautiful Ylang Ylang back from one of her recent trips to Nosy Be, an island north of Madagascar. She asked if the Purrfumery might like to contribute a perfume to a fundraiser for Centre Valbio.  Since I had more time on my hands I figured this was a perfect time to work toward making a perfume that could continue to benefit Centre ValBio by reaching a larger audience, rather than mixing a single perfume for the event. It was exciting, and turned out to be a big hit! I continue to use the fragrant Ylang Ylang my friend  brings home each time she returns from a trip, to make new batches of the now beloved Luminous Lemurs.

Inspired by the lush forests of Madagascar and the delightfully sociable lemurs who inhabit them, Luminous Lemurs was designed to benefit Centre ValBio, and Dr. Patricia Wright - fondly known as the Jane Goodall of Lemurs. Dr. Wright has dedicated her life to working with indigenous communities to reverse the damage done by deforestation in Madagascar, and to help save the many species of animals and plants that live and grow there. A generous portion of the proceeds from Luminous Lemurs have gone to Centre ValBio, and will continue to! The proceeds will help build tree corridors for lemurs and other wildlife to roam, and to help girls from remote villages attend high school. These funds will also help local villagers who work at the center so they can continue their efforts. I’m so pleased this perfume has gone on to become a Purrfumery classic, and can continue to support such meaningful work!
